🔧 Replacing a
welded assembly with a cast iron part
How to replace a welded assembly with a cast iron part?
In many industrial projects, steel and welded assemblies remain legacy solutions.
Yet in practice, one question comes up more and more often in our discussions with design offices and buyers:
“Can we switch to cast iron to gain in reliability, stability or overall cost?”
At Fonderie Schlumberger, this reflection is an integral part of our upstream support.
👉 Fewer assemblies, more robustness
GS or ADI cast iron can, in certain cases, replace a welded assembly with a single-piece part, reducing welds, deformations and machining rework.
👉 More stable mechanical behaviour
Thanks to its vibration damping and rigidity properties, GS or GL cast iron provides concrete functional advantages on stressed parts.
👉 A reasoned, case-by-case approach
Not every part is meant to be cast in iron.
Our role is to analyse the application, constraints and volumes, in order to propose the most relevant solution, whether that means cast iron or keeping a steel solution.
📸 The part illustrated here is a concrete example of a part now produced in cast iron, resulting from a substitution study of a welded assembly.
🎯 What our clients are looking for: reliability, repeatability and industrial control, beyond the simple choice of material.
